After Manchester City’s Yaya Toure admitted that he was affected by the criticisms about his performance this season, teammate Fernando comes to his defense and says that the midfielder is still at the top of his class.
“Yaya for me is one of the best players in his position in the world,” Fernando expressed in an interview. “We see it every day and even though he is a little older now, he still has a lot to offer to this team. I am sure he will continue to do that for us — it makes me happy to play with him.”
Toure and Fernando featured prominently in the team’s Sunday match against West Ham, where they served as central defence and helped prevent the opponents from getting a goal and contributed to a 2-0 win.
The 31-year old Toure was heavily criticized by the media and some fans after his not so impressive performance this season. However, Toure managed to bounce back with the win against West Ham.
The midfielder, through his agent, Dimitry Seluk, also dispelled rumors that he will be leaving the City, saying that he loves playing for Manchester. Reports have earlier claimed that Serie A team Inter Milan is interested in getting him.
In other news, Toure’s teammate goalkeeper Joe Hart said that there is no drastic change needed to get Manchester back on track in the season.
“There is so much more we can achieve,” Hart stressed.. “We’ve only just started. City has an amazing history and great people. We’ve got a lot more history to create. We’ve been up and down the leagues, now we are winning league titles and pushing for them. There’s so much more.”
Manchester has it rough in the last few months, with the latest seeing the former Premier League Champions slide down in the current season’s leader table.
