Southampton continue their great run in the premier league to rout Sunderland 8-0 to remain 3rd in the premier league. Southampton have been fascinating this season and they produce their biggest win in the premier league with a 8-0 rout against a Sunderland side who looked dejected and lacking spirit and belief. It was a match of mistakes and bad touches for Sunderland as the opening goal came in the form of an own goal from Santiago Vergini. He sliced and chipped the ball past his own goal to give Southampton the lead.
The floodgates were opened as Graziano Pelle scored in the 17th minute and Jack Cork added another after 37th minute. Sunderland never looked comfortable in the game and conceded another through a Liam Bridcutt own goal after the defender deflected Pelle’s shot into his own goal. Pelle, Dusan Tadic, Victor Wanyama and Sadio Mane all got a goal each in the second half to complete the rout.
The Sunderland players and fans could only hope for the final whistle to go off as their side looked out of sorts. There lacked the creativity and discipline in the midfield and defensively and goalkeeping wise it was a game worth forgetting for the Black Cats. They made too many errors at the back and Mannone was unable to keep the Saints players away.
