Watford and Hull City of the Premier League were knocked out of the FA Cup on Saturday along with English Championship side Leeds United were also eliminated. Holders Manchester United however won comfortably.
Like their Premier League counterpart Liverpool who were also eliminated by Wolves on Saturday, Hull and Watford paid the price for resting key first team players. They were well beaten in the end and should have no excuses for losing.
Watford were beaten by League 1 side Millwall and Hull City who were FA Cup finalists three years ago were routed 4-1 by Championship side Fulham. Striker Abel Hernandez suffered the ignominy of having suffered two penalties. Hull were already beaten as the first spot kick was saved by Hernandez in the 87th minute by Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli who tripped Hernandez as he went after the rebound. Betinelli guessed the correct way to deny Hernandez off the second attempt as well.
Millwall continued their trend off beating Premier League clubs in this seasons edition of the FA Cup by beating Watford 1-0. They also beat Bournemouth 3-0 in the third round. Despite being ranked 39 places below Hull in English football, Millwall showed tenacity and were deserved winners. They had eight chances at goal while Hull only had two. League 1 top scorer Steve Morison connected with Shane Ferguson’s left cross to win the game in the 85th minute.
Leeds United were embarrassed after they were defeated 1-0 by Sutton United.
United, even with nine changes to the team thrashed Championship strugglers 4-0 at Old Trafford with goals coming from headers via Marouane Fellaini and Chris Smalling. Henrikh Mkhitaryan added another after some good work on the left by Anthony Martial and Bastian Schweinsteiger completed the scoring with a close range finish with nine minutes remaining.
