After a tough entertaining match between Seattle sounders and Portland Timbers at Century link field on Sunday night, Sounders emerged victorious. Clint Dempsey was the man of the match after bagging in the winning and only goal of the match in the 77th minute.

Dempsey went in to the history books after the goal as the leading scorer in the rivalry squads. His efforts translated to the fourth goal of the season and the 4th straight match getting in to the score sheet while playing against the Timbers.

During the first half, both teams displayed an impressive performance, but sounders outshined their opponents almost getting an opener in the 10th minute. Obafemi Martins had a perfect opportunity when he maneuvered past Timbers’ defenders, but his attempt went wide off from Adam Kwarasey, Timbers goalkeeper.

While Timbers struggled to create an opportunity, Seattle team work rewarded them and nearly got into the score sheet in the 38th minute. Timbers pressure came along in the second half taking advantage of Chad Marshall’s absence, Seattle’s best center back.

They had 2 shots on target in the 51st minute through Maxmiliano Urruti and through Diego Chara in the 61st minute. Dempsey came to Seattle’s rescue when Andy rose shot was blocked by Kwarasey and found him direct in front of timbers goal.
