Before making a solid decision, the committee had to analyze the requirements for the tournament. Apart from Sao Paulo, the largest city in South America, other cities in Brazil hosting the tournament include; Manaus, Brasilia, Belo Horizonte and Salvador of which all hosted 2014 world cup matches.
Itaquerao stadium, home of Corinthians, which hosted 2014 world cup opener will be the main ground where Olympic Games will be played. Following the announcement, Olympic organizers extended the deadline of ticket application for the fans, being given 6 more days to complete the applications.
After the meeting, local organizers told reporters that they have agreed to work closely with the local government and other games sponsors to ensure the stadium is ready prior to the initial commencement. The 48,000 capacity stadium is expected to cost the organizers approximately $ 5 million to fix the temporary structures needed, but they were seeking for partners to assist in settling the cost.
