If there is one manager that has a reputation of axing stars from his squad when they don’t fit his style of play, it’s none other than the current Manchester City honcho.

From when he took over the reigns of power at Barcelona to his days at Bayern. Pep has quite the record of dropping big players not in his plans like one would a bad habit.

With Joe Hart and Yaya Toure, who won’t be playing Champions League football till January at least the latest victims of the tiki-taka philosopher, here is an actual football team consisting of Guardiola’s rejects.

GK – Joe Hart

The Manchester City legend had to leave the club on loan to Torino after getting dropped to the bench due to his lack of proper footwork and inability to play as a sweeper.

He has since been replaced by Claudio Bravo.

CM – Yaya Toure

The midfielder had to play at central back a couple of times under Pep at Barcelona. That didn’t stop him from moving away having lost his midfield spot to Busquets.

He didn’t escape for long as he will now have to play a bit-part role in the squad after failing to leave despite being regarded surplus to requirements.

CM – Dante

The Brazilian was an integral part of the Jupp Heynckes-led treble winning squad but fell out with Pep and was shipped off to Wolfsburg.

He is yet to reclaim his once legendary defensive status and has also lost his spot in the national team.

RB – Emre Can

The German remains one of the best Bayern Munich’s academy graduates, but he couldn’t fit into Pep’s plans and was sold to Bayer Leverkusen afterwards.

He now plies his trade at Liverpool.

LB – Zambrotta

The World Cup winning full back was part of those that had to leave Camp Nou upon Guardiola’s arrival.

Despite holding down a spot earlier on, Jordi Alba was brought in to take his place as the new Sherrif opted for more attacking-minded full backs.

DM – Schweinsteiger

The erstwhile German captain was considered surplus to requirements at Munich by Pep despite his legendary status in the club and country.

Manchester United went for his signature and are yet to benefit from such ill-advised move.

AMR- Kross

Having loved Xabi Alonso from afar, Josep finally saw a chance to lure him to his side at Bayern, and the promising Toni Kross had to get sacrificed as a result.

The German has since gone ahead to add 2 more Champions League medals to his cabinet at Real Madrid.

Clearly, he won this one.

AML – Deco

The Portuguese legend was deemed untouchable at Barcelona at the time a new coach was announced.

But Pep had other plans, and he installed Xavi as his choice midfield option, with Deco heading to Chelsea eventually.

RW – Eto’o

Upon his appointment as first team manager, Messi was Guardiola’s option to lead the attack, with that decision pushing the Cameroonian legend to the wings.

He could only last a season as he was included as a makeweight in securing Zlatan’s services from Inter Milan.

Eto’o won a treble with Mourinho immediately at San Siro.

LW – Ronaldinho

Despite being seen as a legend in Barcelona colours, Pep wanted no distractions in his new reign and the 2-time Ballon d’Or had to leave immediately, with AC Milan his next stop.

Unfortunately, he never could regain his top form afterwards.

CF – Ibrahimovic

The Swede and Pep had a clash of egos during their one-season working relationship. It never did work out, and Zlatan left for AC Milan and has become better ever since.

Both will meet during the Manchester Derby in some days time. And one will surely have the last laugh.

Paul Koroma

I learned all about life with a ball at my feet. Soccer allows me to push the limitation of creativity and express myself without saying a word. Soccer is my addiction. I train. I play, and I repeat every single day.
