Wales v Belgium - UEFA EURO 2016 Qualifier

It definitely will be a more challenging season for Chelsea next season after they ended up 10th on the log in the recently-concluded season. The former defending champions hold the record for the worst finish by a former champion in the EPL after their decline of a season. Holding on to their key players next term will be a daunting task, as the star players might be lured away to sides that will offer Champions League football. A player that has been frequently linked with a possible exit is former PFA Player of the year, Eden Hazard. The Belgium international was heavily tipped to depart the Stamford Bridge following his huge dip in form as the season went on, and Madrid and PSG were supposed probable destinations. However, he found form towards the very tail end of the season, and the appointment of Antonio Conte as the club’s new handler made it seemed an exit wasn’t very more likely anymore.

Ahead of the Euros, the 24-year-old who is set to lead his country in France claims he isn’t 100% sure if he will remain with the Blues for the next term’s campaign. But he says he is 99% sure he would remain. As revealed by The Sun , he says his future will be sorted out after the competition.

“If I tell you I’m staying at Chelsea with 100 percent certainty, this is not the case. For now, I’m 100 percent sure I’ll compete at the Euros. After, I will think of Chelsea. But I want to finish well at the club. So like Thibaut, I will be at Chelsea 99 percent next season.”

The winger had a bad season and was singled out by many for Chelsea’s failure. His season was further made worse after he picked up an injury during the 2nd leg of the Champions League quarter finals against PSG. Although he redeemed himself with brilliant performances against Tottenham, Liverpool and Leicester City, that wasn’t enough to earn Chelsea an European spot for next season. His return to form was a little too late, and he would be hoping to make up for it with a great performance for his country at the European tournament.

Real Madrid are said to be keen to land the Belgian with talks that Ronaldo could depart, and the rumours linking him to the Bernabeu are yet to die down. The money-spending PSG also want to land the bag-of-tricks player as they prepare for the exit of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The need to move to a more attractive side could decide Hazard’s future, but it’s not known if Conte will be keen to let him go easily. The Italian is said to have convinced him to stay as he has plans to build his team around the star forward next term, just as Jose did. The Portuguese allowed him to play a free role during the title-winning campaign after having restricted him the season before that. Chelsea must hold on to Hazard as they won’t be attractive enough to land players of his quality, and the player will sure help bring them back to the top. Chelsea winning the EPL next season can’t be ruled out, and if there is a player who can help them with it, it is Eden Hazard.
