With the summer transfer season coming up, numerous teams are said to be interested in getting Paris Saint Germain’s Edinson Cavani. However, the team says that they won’t consider any bids for the striker.
“I won’t even look at it,” PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi when asked by French newspaper Le Parisien when asked about potential bids for Cavani. Manchester United is the team most rumoured to be gunning to get the 28-year old, with a €50 million offer reportedly already prepared by the team. Other teams that are said to be interested in getting Cavani are Juventus and Atletico Madrid.
Al Khelaifi also denied reports that he has already set a meeting with Cavani to discuss his future. “I don’t have a meeting with him,” the Qatari said. “He’s young, and the future of the club. He needs more confidence, but his last game proves his talent. He’ll be Parisian next season.”
Cavani has made no secret his dissatisfaction about he is being used in plays, with PSG coach Laurent Blanc putting him in a wide position in the playmaker’s 4-3-3 setup. He has also expressed the desire to move to another team, though he still has three years remaining in his current contract.
Nevertheless, the striker made an impressive showing in PSG’s match against Lille in the French Ligue 1, playing a central position in place of suspended Zlatan Ibrahimovic and managing two goals.
Aside from Cavani, Al Khelaifi also expects Ibrahimovic to stay with the team. “There’s no question: he’ll stay with us next season, that’s certain. Just like Pastore, who was the first to believe in the project. I don’t know what Zlatan wants to do after 2016. We’ll talk. I would like to keep him at the club in a role yet to be defined. We want to keep our star.”
However, PSG’s top honcho also admitted that they are on the hunt for reinforcements for the squad, though he also noted that they are limited by current league regulations.
