As per a report from Sky Germany, Michael Ballack could act as Frank Lampard’s assistant at Chelsea next season.
Lampard’s imminent appointment
Blues’ legend Lampard is expected to be announced as the new Chelsea manager imminently, following Maurizio Sarri’s departure for Serie A giants Juventus two weeks ago.
The 40-year-old is currently in charge of Championship outfit Derby County, who he led to the Playoff final in his debut season at Pride Park this past season.
However, Lampard’s impressive Rams’ stint looks set to last just a solitary campaign.
On the back of mounting rumours over the last couple of weeks, Derby confirmed earlier today that they have given their boss permission to speak to Chelsea over the vacant manager’s role at Stamford Bridge:
Derby County Football Club can confirm that they have granted permission for Chelsea Football Club to speak to Frank Lampard about the vacant managerial position at Stamford Bridge.
With pre-season fast approaching for both clubs it is hoped this will allow Chelsea to swiftly conclude their discussions.
The club will make no further comment until it is appropriate to do so.
In addition, the last couple of hours have seen multiple sources suggest that Chelsea are ready to pay Lampard’s £4 million Derby compensation clause:
Chelsea have told Derby they are willing to meet Frank Lampard’s £4M compensation clause, according to Sky sources.
