Manchester United v A.F.C. Bournemouth - Premier League

Jose Mourinho’s arrival at the Old Trafford is bound to come with mass changes. LVG’s 2-season reign was rife with a make-shift system of players’ position, and that wouldn’t be happening under the Portuguese. Despite spending over £200 million in transfers, the United squad wasn’t able to produce the desired results under the Dutch, failing to finish in top-four in the recently-concluded season. Massive squad shakeup is in the pipeline, and some players are set to be axed, while some are set to make arrivals. Former United player and legend, Dwight Yorke believes only 4 of the current squad will be spared by the erstwhile Chelsea handler.

David de Gea, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Wayne Rooney are those Dwight believes will remain after squad changes have taken place. The likes of Mata, Blind, Fellaini, Rojo and Depay are set to leave through the backdoor and end their current contracts prematurely. While the likes of Joao Mario, John Stones, Andre Gomes and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are due to arrive in big-money moves. Jose is set to be handed £200 million in order to land his desired players ahead of the new season. Since Sir Alex Ferguson departed, the Red Devils have headed south; unable to hold down an enviable position both on the local and continental scenes.

With the changes bound to come, the United’s 4-3-2-1 formation could eventually be like this.

De Gea

Despite being linked with a Real Madrid move, the Spain international will most likely continue at Old Trafford. He has been the best player for the past 4 seasons, and Madrid’s quietness due to Navas’ brilliance could mean he’s no longer top of their plans like the case was last summer.

Luke Shaw. Chris Smalling. John Stones. Fosu Mensah

The returning left-back could be retaining his position after a long-term injury ruled him out of what was looking like a brilliant season for the former Southampton star. With Stones still on Jose’s radar, the Everton central-back could arrive to partner Smalling at the heart of the United defence. Darmian hasn’t exactly been brilliant at right-back for the team, and we could see Netherlands ace, Fosu-Mensah stake a claim to the position. He has the strength and attacking abilities needed (to excel) in a Mourinho-led side.

Andre Gomes. Joao Mario

The Portuguese duo are also set to get signed, and they will sure displace the current midfield quintet of Carrick, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, Herrera and Fellaini from the starting 11- that is if they still remain in the squad. The Valencia and Lisbon stars put up impressive and superb performances last term that saw them earn call ups to the national team.

Martial. Rooney. Rashford

All things being equal, these 3 should remain, and Rooney and Rashford might permanently get drafted just behind a starting 9. Martial has been brilliant on the left, and that is sure to continue. Rooney is beginning to excel in his new-found number 10 role, and should also continue under Jose. Rashford’s ability on the right has also been seen few times last season, but it remains to be seen if Jose will trust a teenager for a starting role.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Many continue to see the Sweden international arrive to adorn a number 9 shirt at Old Trafford next season. A 1 or 2-season deal might be agreed after the Euros as a reunion between the former PSG star and Jose looks destined to happen.

I learned all about life with a ball at my feet. Soccer allows me to push the limitation of creativity and express myself without saying a word. Soccer is my addiction. I train. I play, and I repeat every single day.
