One player whose future at the Theatre of Dreams is assured is back-to-back winner of club’s player of the year award, David Degea. The Spain international was a subject of a last-minute transfer fail last summer as a move to the Santiago Bernabeu fell through. And going by an agreement between both sides, Real Madrid were set to return for him this summer in a move worth €35million. But the deadline expired June 15. And following Zidane’s admission that a new goalie isn’t a priority, Madrid’s president, Florentino Perez has decided against making a move. Keylor Navas’ form has seen him hold down his spot in-between the goal, and Degea isn’t needed at the club again. Currently at the European Championships, the 25-year-old who agreed a contract extension last summer after the exit failed wants to remain with the club, and has reportedly claim his new challenge is to win the EPL title with Jose Mourinho.
The future of a potential United arrival is however in doubts. Armenia international and Borussia Dortmund’s star, Henrikh Mkhitaryan has seen his Manchester United transfer bid rejected by the Bundesliga outfit. Mkhitaryan is also being targeted by Arsenal, but he wants United as he desires to work under the tutelage of Jose. Currently left with 1 year on his contact, the assist master wants out and has set his eyes on an Old Trafford switch, but he is seeing a move getting blocked by the Signal Iduna Park outfit. Despite this, the agent of the 26-year-old is optimistic a move will be eventually secured. In his words,
“It would be a sin to stop talking. I am a positive guy. If I wasn’t confident of reaching some kind of conclusion, I wouldn’t try. I am very proud Manchester United want him and the talks are being held in a good atmosphere, but at the moment Dortmund are still saying no.”
Meanwhile, Brazil skipper and Barcelona forward, Neymar could complete a United switch this summer. The future of the 24-year-old star at the Camp Nou has always been in doubt, and Spanish news outlet, ABC claims he is considering offers from other clubs, though he won’t likely turn down new terms from Barca. Madrid, PSG and Manchester United are still in pursuit, and his father/agent wants him to consider taking up the juicy offers from one of them this summer. The Red Devils are tabling £13.3million yearly wage to PSG’s £14.5million – subject to increasing to £22million. United made an offer for him last summer but a move fell through, and it remains unknown what the fate is this time.
While the future of the 2 at United isn’t yet ascertained, that of Paul Pogba is. The 23-year-old Les Bleus won’t be returning to the club anytime soon as a deal to switch to Real Madrid is in progress. The Juve midfielder was linked with a possible £78million summer arrival and return, but his agent has revealed to Marca that,
”We are in the first stage of the negotiations. Paul admires Real Madrid and Zinedine Zidane and that will obviously be important towards his decision.”
