The Blues new coach,Antonio Conte is set to make some major transfers as plans to overhaul the squad continue. A couple of big names are on the radar, with majority of them defenders. Ahead of what promises to be a busy summer for the Stamford Bridge outfit, here are those who could make an arrival.
The Italian handler will have a couple of Italians in his squad for sure and he wants to bring some of his charges at the national team with him. Juventus central back, Leonardo Bonucci is on Conte’s radar and has always been a key part of his famous 3-5-2 at both club and country levels. The veteran defender has shown both his top-notch defensive and attacking qualities consistently and will definitely be a good buy. The defender is being targeted alongside national teammates and Sunderland midfielder, Emanuele Giaccherin. Currently on loan at Bologna, the Italian has become a better player and is a major player in the Azzurri team at the Euros.
Inter Milan’s Jeison Murillo, Everton’s John Stones, PSG’s Marquinhos and AS Roma’s Kostas Manolas are some of the defenders the club are targeting. With the likes of Terry, Cahill and Ivanovic ageing, the need for young defenders is pertinent. Murillo is out of contract at the San Siro and a couple of clubs are monitoring his situation. Barcelona and Roma want to land him, but a £20million deal with Chelsea looks close to being agreed. Stones saw 3 attempts to move to Chelsea blocked last summer by his club management. However, with an improved offer, Conte might eventually land the England international for the Blues.
Lack of game time at the Parc des Princes has increasingly frustrated Marquinhos, and the young Brazilian is eyeing a move away. A summer exit looks certain, and Chelsea will have to beat the likes of United and Barcelona to his signature once he gives the green light. His ability to play as a full back will definitely fit perfectly into a 3-man defence system the club could employ next season. Roma’s Manolas has been identified as the perfect replacement for John Terry, and with the skipper due to become a squad player next term before moving on, getting a replacement will be necessary.
In midfield, Roma’s Radja Nainggolan, Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Valencia’s Andre Gomes and Anderlecht’s Youri Tielemans make up an array of targets the club will pursue for summer deals. Landing Belgium teenage sensation, Tielemans look like the hardest as his club has slammed a huge fees on the head of the 18-year-old midfield sensation. His countryman, Nainggolan is said to be close to a Serie A exit as a move to the Stamford Bridge nears. Portugal international, Andre Gomes is also an exciting talent the club has identified. The £40million price of the Manchester United-target might however put off interests from the club. Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future at Arsenal has also come into doubts, and after falling down the pecking orders, a move away from the Emirates seems to be on the cards, and Chelsea are monitoring the situation.
Upfront, the likes of Inter duo, Mauro Icardi and Stefan Jovetic, Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain, Everton’s Romelu Lukaku and PSG’s Javier Pastore are under Chelsea’s radar.
