Despite the strong claims that EPL-winning striker, Jamie Vardy was close to signing for Arsenal prior to the European Championships, the possibility of that happening has now been discarded by Arsene Wenger himself. In the words of the Gunners handler when asked about Vardy’s transfer progress,
“Jamie Vardy, at the moment, is at Leicester. On what I know, he will stay at Leicester.”
The 29-year-old’s £20million buyout clause from the King Power Stadium outfit was met, and the 24-goal striker was just a medicals away from completing an Emirates switch. But it seems he has decided to remain at the club for next term. Although Wenger insists a maximum of 3 more arrivals will be secured after Granit Xhaka’s procurement, it remains unknown if a striker is still clearly in his plans after he claimed Olivier Giroud is a top striker following his final match day hat-trick against Norwich City. With Vardy lost, Arsenal have been strongly linked to PSG’s Edinson Cavani as their target for the position, but it remains unknown if a move for the often-misfiring 29-year-old Uruguay international will be completed.
Former Manchester City striker, Stevan Jovetic is also another target for the position according to Italian outlet, Corriere dello Sport. The Montenegro international scored 6 goals for Inter Milan last season and is said to wanting to leave. Arsenal are reportedly considering making a move for him though they face fierce competition for his signature from Spartak Moscow. However, the £13million-worth 26-year-old will likely favour a return to the EPL ahead of a move to Russia or elsewhere.
With the club still in need of a quality central defender, Manchester United’s Daley Blind has emerged as a surprise summer transfer target for Arsenal. Reports claim the Netherlands international defensive midfielder has been identified by Mourinho as too small to play in central defence for United , and he could be put up for sales. However, if Arsenal want to sign him primarily because he is a defensive midfielder or as a make-shift central back is not known. Blind’s versatility to play both positions excellently well make him an ideal signing no doubt, and if signed, that will see him provide many options for the squad.
Colombia international and Inter Milan centre-back, Jeison Murillo has also been identified for the position. As per Sky Sport Italia, Arsenal are interested in the 24-year-old after a solid outing for Inter last season where he made 35 appearances. Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Zenit St Petersburg are also monitoring the situation of the solid defender, but he has declared that he wants to concentrate on his country’s Copa America campaign for now.
Arsenal have joined other clubs in the pursuit of Morocco international winger, Sofiane Boufal. The Lille forward notched 11 goals last season at the end of a spectacular campaign for the Ligue 1 side, and his performance has earned him interests from the likes of Barcelona, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid. Arsenal are said to be willing to pay the £19.6million price slammed on his head, and they are in a favourable position to land him as the 22-year-old is keen on leaving Lille. Sofiane has been scouted by Arsenal since January.
