Injured Naby Keita returns to Liverpool

More bad news for Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita.

Keita missed the back-end of Liverpool’s 2018-19 season following an injury suffered against Barcelona in the Champions League.

Indeed, Keita played no part in the Champions League final win against Tottenham.

Keita’s recently returned to action at the 2019 African Cup of Nations.

However, on Sunday, Keita sat on the bench for Guinea’s 2-0 win over Burundi.

Following that match it’s been confirmed by Guinean football reporter Amadou Makadji, who works for Foot224, that Keita has returned to Liverpool for treatment.

What’s wrong with Naby Keita?

Amadou Makadji has revealed that Keita is struggling with a thigh problem.

It’s unclear at this stage how bad Keita’s injury is.

Yet, Amadou Makadji indicates that Keita’s AFCON 2019 competition isn’t over.

Guinea, following their win over Burundi, have booked their spot in the knockout phase of the competition.

As Guinea now wait to see who they’ll face in the next round, Keita has flown on a private jet to Liverpool for just three days.

Keita is expected to return to Cairo this week to continue playing for Guinea.

Naby Keita’s first season at Liverpool

So how did Keita get on during his first year at Anfield?

It took the former RB Leipzig star time to settle into his new surroundings at Liverpool.

However, Keita began to show his form towards the turn of the year: his performance in Liverpool’s away win at Burnley was perhaps the turning point.

The 24-year-old was involved in 25 league games, scoring twice.

Memorably, Keita scored the opener in a 5-0 win over Huddersfield. That goal set a new Liverpool Premier League record, coming after only 14 seconds.

Keita also scored once in Liverpool’s Champions League run.

I learned all about life with a ball at my feet. Soccer allows me to push the limitation of creativity and express myself without saying a word. Soccer is my addiction. I train, I play and I repeat every single day. I hope you like my site. Feel free to say hey. I don't bite. :)
