Claudio Ranieri, Greece head coach has been sacked after displaying poor performance in European champions’ qualifier matches in group F. Their last match was against Faroe Islands and Greece welcomed their opponents hoping to get three more points and get to a better position in the Group.
Greece had shown some dominance in the match that attracted a considerable number of home fans, but their efforts were never rewarded. However, the visiting team utilized the chances they had, and managed to get the winning and the only goal in the match.
Claudio received the sad news on Saturday after receiving critics following the European champions’ qualifier humiliating loss at home. The 2004 champions are now at the bottom of the group with only one point after 4 matches.
Their chances to reach 2016 finals are now minimal as they struggle to get points in the competitive tournament. However, Claudio will remain in charge until Tuesday when Greece will clash against Serbia in an international friendly match.
In a statement issued by Greece federation, they claimed that they had no option but to terminate the contract before its expiration. There were rumors that a successor was found to take over the responsibilities, but the federation dismissed such rumors.
Greece have to take their time before appointing another head coach as they expect another competitive match in March next year against Hungary.
