David De Gea & Manchester United

It’s not yet been confirmed by either Manchester United or their Spanish international goalie David De Gea, however the Telegraph are calling it on Sunday.

According to the broadsheet, De Gea has finally agreed a new long term deal to remain at Old Trafford.

Should the contract materialise, it will be a major win for Ed Woodward and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

De Gea has undoubtedly been one of Man United’s star performers in recent seasons, and his commitment to the club will be a huge boost to everyone involved at Old Trafford.

Man United offer world-record £117m contract

David De Gea is currently set to become a free agent at the end of the 2019-20 season.

However, the Telegraph today reveal that the keeper is ready to agree a six-year Old Trafford deal.

Moreover, that contract will make De Gea the world’s best-paid keeper. Readers are told:

David De Gea will become the world’s highest paid goalkeeper after agreeing a new six-year contract with Manchester United worth around £117 million.

When will De Gea sign his Man United contract?

The Telegraph report the following:

(De Gea) will put pen to paper on the new deal, which is believed to be worth around £375,000 a week, once he returns to Manchester from the tour.

Why is De Gea staying at Man United?

That issue is dealt with in the Sunday Times, who also report that De Gea is close to agreeing his new contract with Man United.

Journalist Paul Hirst confirms that Juventus and PSG both tried to convince De Gea to leave Old Trafford.

The Sunday Times offer two reasons why De Gea will sign on.

Firstly, there’s the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer factor. Readers are told:

Sources close to the goalkeeper admit that De Gea was badly affected by the errors and was pleased by Solskjaer’s decision not to drop him from the team.

Secondly, De Gea is confident that Man United can bounce back in upcoming seasons:

De Gea is understood to believe that United will win trophies in the coming years.

Finally, De Gea’s huge pay-rise is another reason why he’s happy to sign-on with United.
