The much awaited match between Columbus crew SC and Philadelphia union went down as planned on Saturday night at Mapfre stadium.
The visitors were in for a rude shock after predicting a win, but went home at a loss being beaten 4 goals to 1. The crew started the match on a high note terrorizing the union defense and managed to get an opener in the 21st minute through Kei Kamara.
Kamara was making his 200th appearance in his MLS career where he was lucky to get a goal and an assist. While the union struggled to even generate a single opportunity, crew’s cohesive and creative play created them more opportunities.
In the 32nd minute, they doubled the lead when Waylon Francis and Finlay’s efforts were rewarded. Minutes before half time, Emanuel Pogatetz lifted a long ball to Justin Meram who was strong enough to dribble it for 40 yards before sliding a shot past union goalkeeper.
Eric Ayuk gave the Union a consolation goal in the 64th minute to make it 3-1. However, Finlay was not satisfied and he went for his second goal of the match in the 74th minute. He received a perfect pass from kamara which left him one-on-one with union goalkeeper, McCarthy who was maneuvered easily to end the match at 4-1.
