Taking place a year ahead of the 2018 World Cup, the 2017 Confederations Cup will serve as a dress rehearsal for host national Russia, but also several other sides who could be serious candidates for the coveted trophy next summer.

Even though Joachim Low decided to rest a number of key men, Germany are 2/1 favourites for the title, followed by star-studded Portugal at 5/2, who arrive in Russia at full strength and eager to prove their worth at yet another major tournament.

Very good Chile side are priced at 9/4 after claiming back to back Copa America trophies, while Mexico and hosts Russia are both priced at 1/1.

Cameroon, Australia and New Zealand are not really expected to progress from the group stage, let alone fight for the coveted trophy, but they will attempt to defy the odds and at least improve their position in the Fifa Rankings.

This can prove quite an interesting tournament for betting enthusiasts as they wait for the start of the new season in top football leagues, and we believe that placing your bets with bet365 would be the right thing to do.

The UK firm features a very good coverage of the showpiece tournament, quoting a plethora of pre-match and in-play betting markets, with their Each Way First Goalscorers and Bore Draw Money Back offers available throughout the competition.

Speaking of our Confederations Cup predictions, we seriously doubt under-strength Germany side will reach the final stages, so our money is on one of Portugal or Chile lifting the trophy.

Improving Russia might be able to spring a surprise or two, while Mexico can beat anyone on their day and are probably in the best shape of all participating sides.
